This poem encapsulates so much about the world of magic - its simplicity and purity of heart. Try it with your next cuppa!
A MAGIC CUP OF TEA (The First Conversation with Sally my Teacher)
“What I’d really like to do” I said,” is to cast a magic spell.” Without knowing much about the craft, I thought I’d do it well. I was still very naïve but as keen as mustard, you see. “If that is what you wish, she said, make a magic cup of tea.” A magic cup of tea, I thought, that can’t be hard to do, Although the concept sounded easy, I’d have to think it
through. |

Perhaps what was being asked wasn’t simple after all, Cups of tea I’d made before, but never magic as I recall
Spring water, for this spell I’ll use. That sounded very grand. The mineral water in my fridge came from springs in Scotland. I thought of all the wells and springs bubbling through the earth. From underground lakes and rivers, where this water had it’s birth.
The mug I took down from the shelf with painted cats around Was once a lump of china clay moulded from the ground. The fragrant leaves from tea plants growing sturdy in the sun Had found their way across the world to my teabag from Ceylon. |

Like candles upon the hob I lit flames beneath the kettle. Hot jets of fire blazed, flickering, dancing and heating metal. The water boiled, I poured it on the teabag in my mug. And now the milk, I paused a moment looking in the jug.
I thought of the gentle Friesian that had given creamy milk to me Grazing all day in meadows sweet, so I could have milk in my tea. Now what else could make this spell? Honey to make it sweet. Golden honey from clover flowers would be such a treat. Honeybees bouncing amongst the flowers, leg pouches all swollen Had worked so hard to make this honey from the yellow pollen. Now stir three times with Nanas’ spoon, the handle made of bone |

Which brought to mind Triple Goddess, Maiden, Mother and
Crone
I took a long deep breath and blew the surface of my cup Cool air was needed for this spell, so I could take a sup. I thanked the elements I’d called upon to help me make this tea. I thanked the Triple Goddess too, for being here with me.
I took my tea into the garden, the washing drying in outer space. This really was the most magical brew I’d ever come to taste. Contentedly I drank magic tea, in my garden with shining sun. What a wise and wonderful teacher I had, my first spell casting done. -------------------------- Heather - UK |

The Magical Mother A Wiccan Perspective Extracted from a talk given by Sally M at the Goddess Conference in August 2002 ---------------------- "If the Earth could speak – I wonder what she would say to the human race? |

Perhaps her first thoughts would be for the children of the world, who suffer so much in the name of religion, power and greed. But what point to think of the children if there is no Earth for them to live upon. So perhaps her thoughts would be with the trees, the land and the rivers and to their preservation. But what point to think of the trees, the land and the rivers without the creatures that pollinate, distribute and seed the land and waters with new life? So perhaps she would focus upon the creatures. But what point to think of the creatures when one entire species is becoming extinct every hour of every day! Will they – too - not soon all be gone? |

The Earth has all of these issues to contend with. Humanity is consuming so many of her resources that it is placing impossible pressures upon the eco-system. Our lifestyles are so self-centred, we all too often forget or ignore the levels of suffering going on at this very moment. The following information was emailed to me recently and it is worth sharing with you now “If you woke up this morning with more health than
illness...you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this
week. |

The Earth is calling for us to listen for the need, to see and feel the need and to act upon it! If the Earth could speak, perhaps she would say:- “Search amongst the rocks at the edges of my being, to seek beyond the dual of dark and light, and so find the alchemy of love’s eternal quest blended from silver moon and golden sun into a universal song that sings this Earth. And from this sound – another world is born, one of beauty, colour and warmth. Keepers of this Blessed Garden - love this Earth that is your home. Do not forsake me - my children - remember why you are here.” Are we forsaking our mother the Earth? Do we live in a world we can be proud of?. Or do you, like me, feel that we could love and care far more? Please let your life make a difference - remember why you are here. " |
